Caravanning is a very popular and fashionable activity with around 17 million nights spent in touring caravans alone. At the turn of the century it was estimated that there were over 1/2 million touring caravans and over 100,000 motorhomes in use in the UK and, even allowing for replacements, those numbers will have grown. In 2006 over 30,000 touring caravans were sold and 11,000 new motorhomes were registered according to figures from the national caravan council.
